How do I pay for textbooks with student loans?

I have recently accepted student loans. I am a transfer student( from community college to a state school). I have never taken out loans and I was just wondering how do I pay for textbooks? Do I give them my ID at the bookstore? Do I have to use my own money for the textbooks? I am confused. Anyone that knows please answer.

I just called the financial office, and have been on hold for 54 minutes. I gave up.

Thanks guys.|||Different schools have different policies. Sometimes you will do it from the bookstore's website online and sometimes they will take it off of your account via your id. E mail the financial aid office or call again first thing in the morning. This is only valid if you have leftover money after paying your tuition fees by the way.|||You should use GreenTextbooks.org

|||One of the best places I have found to purchase textbooks is Uloop http://ow.ly/YfW7 -- They connect students with other students so all transactions are local, which means you don't have to worry about shipping anything. Also, unlike Amazon %26amp; eBay they don't take a cut. This means books are cheaper

What kind of old textbooks do people collect?

I've heard that many people are interested in collecting old textbooks from "way back when". Exactly what kind of textbooks do these collectors look for? I found a bunch of old textbooks at a church sale and was just thinking about it.|||I have a modest collection of old math books (pre-WWII) in Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, a table of Logarithms, and so on. I also have some science books, such as Astronomy published in 1876, Chemistry from 1854, and others. It is fun for me to see how math was taught before the "New Math" and also what is still taught the same way. I also really enjoy reading the latest knowledge of previous years.

My Astronomy textbook does not mention Pluto, but it speculates on a planet called Vulcan closer to the Sun than Mercury. There is of course no mention of Relativity, but there is a serious mention of the Flood. The Chemistry textbook doesn鈥檛 have the Periodic Table in it. I don鈥檛 read them to make fun of the past, but to see how knowledge and attitudes accumulated over time.

I had many of the books even in high school. When I had to read Gulliver鈥檚 Travels for English class, I noticed that the Laputans had the number of Martian moons correct (2) as well as some details of their orbits and sizes. Phobos and Deimos were discovered in 1877, a year after my Astronomy textbook that stated there were no moons. At the time Swift was writing, a century before, no one knew about the moons, so how did he?

Atlases aren鈥檛 exactly textbooks but they are references, and anyway I keep them with the textbooks. I like to have them from different years (1913, 1928, 1943, 1957, and 2007 are my current spanning set, with others in between). I use them as references when I study history or read historical fiction, to understand how the world was at that time.

Anyway, that is the kind of textbook I look for. Something that shows a previous understanding or approach to the knowledge of the world. I collect them because they are so much fun, and so fascinating to read. I don鈥檛 think a single one of my old textbooks is worth more than $10, so I don鈥檛 imagine I qualify as a serious collector. Church sales, library bookstores, and similar are my sources, rather than elegant book shows.|||I would buy used at GreenTextbooks.com - Saving the Planet One Textbook at a Time

What are the textbooks in the US so massive and heavy?

I don't understand the purpose of making the textbook difficult to carry. Textbooks are so heavy and causing my shelve to distort. When I was in high school, I always had to carry 60lbs of books in my backpack. Why can't publishers use a different material to make books ? In China and India the textbooks are very light and easy to transport, so it can be done.|||I agree with you. Books have always been heavy. I remember carrying them around with me back and forth daily because of school work and studying for tests.

My opinion: The books get heavier, thicker, and the print gets smaller the older we get. There are simple ways to explain ideas, and as we continue our education, the way those ideas are explained use more vocabulary words and long-winded explanations.

When we get to college, we are usually buying the book the Professor wrote for the class. It has always made me wonder. MOST reading material in the military is written at the 6th grade level. With Kindle technology out, is this another option for carrying books? Today there are also electronic versions of books available online for use and reference in pdf. A better archive and library to access. You have the quick find keys, etc to assist.|||I would buy used at GreenTextbooks.com - Saving the Planet One Textbook at a Time

|||I think using different types of paper is a great idea,

but as far as I know the lighter papers is low in quality.

They have to think about using kind of thick ( that are heavier ) paper in order to published textbook with lots of illustrators and sometimes color texts.

Privately, I like US textbooks because compare with textbook in my home conutries which usually made from light paper ( but no colors ! ) they are more attract my interest to open and start reading it without getting bored.

Plus it can be my accuse not taking it back to home to study..

Justkiding XD|||I may be wrong about this, but I think some publishers are beginning to steer away from this. I've noticed many books are being republished as multiple books. For example, the calculus book I use as a TA used to be Calc 1,2,%26amp; 3 all in one, but now Calc 1 %26amp; 2 are one book and Calc 3 is a separate book. I guess the publishers finally realized they can actually make more money doing this, and coincidentally it takes a load off our backs in a literal sense.|||Yea tell me about it. Those books actually did some damage to my knee I reckon.

You know what I started doing? I'd look for electronic versions of a title first and if it's available, I'll buy that instead of paper version. If there's only paper version, I'll rip it apart, just bring a couple of chapters at a time or feed everything into my scanner that has an automatic feeder and read off my laptop. I also started to look for books that are very thin, concise while still easy to read and informative at the same time. Such books are hard to find but I'd be so happy whenever I came across one.|||because they hold alot of information! in other countries, they maybe more poor and not recieve as good as an education.

in my school, they give us textbooks to bring home, ad they have a second copy at school... that way there is no lugging!|||my school has enough that you can have a ahome and class copy. it is still a pain to carry them. i think its because they want us to be so verry smart....in order to pass the state tests.|||they wanna make money, everything is about the mighty dollar. $$$$$$ is your answer, greedy people ruin the whole world|||Maybe the material they use is more expensive and they can make a profit.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying.|||idk it pisses me off too. i had a sore back every single day. it was horrible and most of the material we never got to anyways|||lml i just left those books in school in my locker idc what teachers thought shiiiit it can couse bac problems|||It pisses me off. Lmao

TExtbooks?!?!?!?

if so. what textbooks did you use? what is the authors name and the edition. that would be interesting.|||Physics: Principles with Applications (6th)

gianocolli (not correct spelling)

that's the only one i remember|||I would suggest GreenTextbooks.org
