Even if you buy a Kindle, you still have to buy the text to download to it. So, you might as well be buying the textbooks and if anything were to happen to your Kindle, you'd be screwed.

Would buying a Kindle so I can use it for textbooks be cheaper than just buying textbooks?Most of the major textbook companies now allow you to read the text book online.
This is not a book you download through Kindle I believe, but rather access from the textbook company's website.
You pay a rental fee which is about 1/2 the textbook cost.

BTW, a number of my students somehow found the international version of the textbook at about 25% of the cost of the US edition. As far as I can tell, the books are exactly the same except for the cover and copyright information.
