Are old editions of textbooks the same as new?

I work at my library on campus and found all the same textbooks in the library as the ones the classes are asking me to buy, BUT the library holds the old editions.

Should I worry about using the older edition? Should I ask my teacher about the older editions?

I'd really hate to use all my money on books again for textbooks I'd only use once. Are old editions of textbooks the same as new?
Newer textbooks have usually been revised. But some things like basic math, languages, and grammar really don't change much. Basic 101 books don't change much either so the old books are probably just as good. Unless you are in advanced classes like Biology or History. I would definitely buy the older used ones. They really are just as good, and if the teacher wants you to study something really new, you can take notes, borrow a newer book from someone else or look it up on the Internet.
that depends on the topic of the textbooks. if its like anatomy it doesnt really matter. but math and languages and english can change with each edition. Are old editions of textbooks the same as new?
The answer is yes and no.

Some information will never change.

New information is always happening, it may be added.

Example:

Countries have changed names.

New information from space expeditions.

A noun is a noun, a verb a verb, etc

Check it out, great if you could save money!!!Are old editions of textbooks the same as new?
they change up some of the text and they change up a lot of the questions... i had an older edition for a couple classes and got by fine... you just gotta hope you dont have to do questions at the end of the chapters... then your in trouble
i dont really no i fink they are
yes they just add 2 new questions!!!
I can only hope that the new textbooks have been updated in this rapidly changing world of new information, It is rather simple to find out if a new text is just that, a New text. Usually there will be an indication of the date that the text has been revised.
their is slight change with a chapter or a few problems edited or added or deducted form the previous tallley but if u can xerox the new probs from the new text book ur friends got then their is hardly an issue
The old edition may be outdated. How much depends on the subject, and how many years passed between editions. Ask your teacher.
minor differences.
Most of the time yes. There are usually some new pictures or a new foreword by a new author but basically they are the same. I saved alot of money by buying the previous editions. You can always ask your instructor if they will allow this but I never did and never had a problem.
for math and most science older editions are fine to have on hand.. but in subjects where information is constantly changing such as history/ humanities you have to keep the books updated... i remember seeing a map of the soviet union in a school last year... and the soviet union has been dissolved for quite a few years now.... you should talk to the teachers to find out if the newer versions of the book are that much different and base your decision on what they suggest.
they're normally almost exactly the same. just with an extra paragraph or a bit deleted.

i suppose it might depend on the subject of the text book though. if it's about something that's not going to change then it should be ok. but if it's about something which is changing all the time then maybe you should get the new editions.

but maybe you should check with your teacher to see if the old editions are ok.
