Why are hardcover textbooks usually cheaper than spiral bound ones?

I was just researching the books I would have to buy next semester and I noticed that the Hardcovers are significantly cheaper than the spirals and was wondering why. They are both the same, and I don't think that it would cost more money to make spirals instead of hardcovers. Besides, aren't hardcovers more expensive than spiral bound books?
