I'm a student and while I was doing my taxes I saw that you could claim your textbooks. I forgot the actual amount (somewhere between 500-600 dollars) and I can't find the receipt. My uncle help me get them, so I know it'll be on his bank statement. Is this enough proof, or will I need to find the actual receipt?
Thank you! What kind of proof do I need to claim my textbooks?
You'd need to have the receipt. The bank statement will just show how much you spent and where but not exactly what you spent it on. So, it would say you spent $500 at the bookstore, but it doesn't necessarily prove that you bought textbooks with all of that money. You could have bought clothing, backpack, etc. So, it's not specific enough.
