Can you recycle textbooks in a mixed paper recycling bin?

I've read that most facilities will not accept textbooks in their original states because of the glue used in binding the books, but if you tear off the textbook's cover and binding, can you throw the remaining pages into the recycling bin? The book in question is quite old, and not worth much money anymore. Thank you very much. Can you recycle textbooks in a mixed paper recycling bin?
Most of the time they cannot be recycled if the hardcover is still attached. You should remove the hard cover and as much glue on the binding you can. I would suggest using GreenTextbooks.org

GreenTextbooks.org specializes in the recycling of textbooks, DVDs, CDs. Buying used textbooks not only saves you money, but cuts down on greenhouse gases caused by the manufacturing of new textbooks.

Still better to sell or even donate it to a bookstore or library. It can still be of some use to someone and it's more efficient to preserve it in it's present state than turn it into something else. Can you recycle textbooks in a mixed paper recycling bin?
Hi there,

I would have to agree with the answer below. However there are many book or paper banks which you can dispose of old books in.
