What is the Cheapest way to get Textbooks?

My husband needs 2 books that are about $140 each... I checked www.textbooks.com, and found one of them for $80, but the other wasn't on there. Is there a cheaper place than textbooks.com, or just another option where I may find the other book? What is the Cheapest way to get Textbooks?

What鈥檚 cool is that they plant a tree for every order.

Don't forget to use this promo code CC102398 so you can get an extra 5% off your entire order. Head over to Chegg.com now.

P.S. 鈥?Anybody can save using this code, so forward this to whoever wants to save on textbooks. What is the Cheapest way to get Textbooks?
There are many places to buy cheap textbooks..but there is http://usedtextbookprices.com

which instantly compare textbook prices across 50+ online bookstores to find the cheapest prices..

Most people at my university use this website. because it shows the prices by condition i.e. used, new, international edition and even rental.. Make sure u compare prices..

I hope this helps u.. Good luck with textbook shopping and the semester ahead.
I rent mine at CHEGG.COM.

They are really good -- the books that I would've had to pay $150 for I rented for $50-60, then I mail them back at the end of the term (they pay for return shipping too).

Only downside is they don't want you to do too much highlighting in them, so they stay in "like new" condition.

I saved $500 one term in rented books! Organic chem, Physics, Calculus, etc... I always end up with the $200 books!
Textbooks.com. They have it all - buy it, rent it (via Chegg), new, used, e-books, etc. They have become the single destination you need - Chegg only rents (and every title they rent is for rent on Textbooks.com too at the same price).
chegg.com

Rent the textbooks. Its much cheaper than buying it but you don't get the keep the textbooks.

Its similar to buying the textbook and selling it back but there's no hassle.
Some universities have second-hand bookshops.

Are there any catches or strings attached to selling college textbooks online?

Hey there,

I have a lot of college textbooks to sell online, and I was wondering where is the best place to put them on sale, and are there any catches or strings attached?

Your answers and time are both greatly appreciated. :)Are there any catches or strings attached to selling college textbooks online?
Amazon and half.com are the easiest for average students to sell their books on. There are all kinds of rules- I know for half.com you get paid at certain intervals, not when your book actually sells, they take a small cut of the book price, you have a short period of time to ship the book, and so forth. When you do ship, media mail at the post office is cheapest. Selling your books yourself makes more money than selling back to the bookstore. Buyers look for the lowest price, so put your books out there on half.com or amazon a few cents lower than the current lowest price other people are offering books at, and your books will sell quickly.

Beware of sites that offer to buy your books back from you- they are no better than the bookstores in price, and they decide what your books are worth after you have already shipped them to the company, when you can't fight back. Are there any catches or strings attached to selling college textbooks online?

How early should I buy my college textbooks?

My friend is already talking about how she's bought her textbooks and it's making me antsy.

I went to see if they had my textbooks online a week ago, and only 3 of them were up (I have 6).

How late is too late?

Or how early is too early?

Classes start the 31stHow early should I buy my college textbooks?
Things to consider:

1. If you buy the book online for a class, and then you decide to drop it, then returning it becomes a pain in the butt. In this case you should get the book later.

2. If you know your going to take a class, it's better to buy the textbook earlier online (if you plan on buying a used one). If you wait longer, then it might become difficult to find the textbook.

3. If you know the professors email address. Send them an email and ask them what textbook and edition are they using for the class. Professors will usually reply.

4. If you are able to buy the textbook on campus, then they usually have like a 2 week return policy. I suggest you buy the book from the bookstore (keep the receipt), then figure out if you want to actually take the class. Then find a used/cheaper copy online and buy it. Then return the copy you bought from the library.

If you are in a pinch for cash, then I recommend checking this website out. I put it together to help people find textbooks for free to really cheap. There are 4 methods and one of them will definitely save you money.

Start looking around now and only buy when you find them at a really good price. That way, by the time school is just around the corner, you are already familiar with the average price of the books and hopefully already purchased them. Just make sure that the books you buy now are the exact books that your course requires. Here's my routine for online shopping from top to bottom:

1. Amazon - Trustworthy, many times very good prices on the "used" sections. $40 book at school's store only cost around $8 shipped at Amazon. I always look here first thing.

2. Facebook - Try and see if your school has a group with previous students who have already taken the classes you want to take. Usually called Buy Textbooks Directly or something along that line. Also good place to resell your textbooks.

3. eBay - Can be and most of the time trustworthy, price can be good depending on the bids.

4. Craigslist - Probably not as safe because you most likely meet up with "strangers" but you can still find books here if you are lucky enough.

5. Campus bookstore - Last resort. I try to refrain myself from buying anything at this overpriced place, unless its only found here. They always run out of used books and if they do have them in stock, it's overpriced. My school has a "customized" version of some books which is a load of crap to me.

Oh yeah, definitely try and see if you can use the older edition of the book, that'll save you tons of money.

When you buy online, make sure that you are confident that the books you're about to buy is compatible with your course. How early should I buy my college textbooks?
I would say that after the first week of class is too late. Most professors give you a week to get your books. If you wait more than a week there is a possibility that your campus bookstore will have sold out of the book you need, especially if its for a core class. And it really is never too early to get your books. The earlier you go to get them the more likely there will be a used copy of the book. Used books sell really quickly. I got all of my books used from my campus bookstore more than a month before classes started. Another thing you can to is check out Amazon, normally you can find your text books there for a lot cheaper and chances are they'll be in good shape. But if you do use Amazon make sure you get the right edition of the book. Some professors allow older editions because they don't teach the entire book, but others require the latest edition. I recommend that you go and buy the books that are posted right now, and buy the other ones as soon as they are posted.
I just graduated, and I usually bought mine the night before class at the campus bookstore. Many of my friends ordered their books online, which was probably a bit cheaper. They usually did so after the first couple days of class. But I liked the freedom of being able to return them easily because you never know if you're going to stick with a class. You might get an awful professor, or the class is too much work, or a better/more interesting course opens up and you switch. I would say, if you are very certain that you'll be taking the class and it's a fairly general course, go ahead and order online. But if you want to wait and see how the class turns out, I wouldn't order them.

You could also check the syllabus if it's available. Buy the books you'll need right away at the bookstore and put in your online order for the ones you won't need til later in the semester. Good luck!
It all depends on if you're going to preview them before you go to school. It's not too late if you buy them right when classes start, some people don't even buy the textbook until a week into the class to make sure they really want to take that class. If you're planning on buying the books online rather than at the college bookstore then you might want to start ordering now because it can take time and some places online don't let you do fast shipping so you might have to wait 3-4 weeks. but if you have a place on campus that you can buy books from then whenever is fine. There is never too early lol
If you already know which ones you need, you should get them asap. Try searching for them using the textbook search engine http://www.bigwords.com I bet they can find them, and for the cheapest price too. Cus they don't actually sell anything they are just a search engine. It's pretty cool actually.
some classes you wont even need textbooks, unless it is required., cause some professors teach in a way where all you need to do is pay attention in lectures and take notes, and ur all set. Ask some of ur friends who took the class, ask them if u need textbooks for that class. Cause you don't want to waste $50-100 dollars for a textbook you won't even need. Unless you want to get ahead in class by reading the next few chapters. Your friend probably wasted $200 on textbooks she don't even need.

go to ratemyprofessors.com and search up your professor/class, students who have taken the class before leave comments/reviews about the class, how easy the class is, and if you need textbook or not

It's kinda like who controls the past controls the future. If you have kids teach them to find information outside of school and know that there were 13 appointed presidents before George Washington, and many other things they over looked, and also teach your kids to stand up for what is true and what they find out. What does Texas want to change in US History Textbooks?

I have heard a lot about how Texas is changing our textbooks to something else.

    What are they changing?

I heard it was something about how "separation of church and state" wasn't actually true.

    Is that what it is?

In Summary-What are they changing and why are they changing it?What does Texas want to change in US History Textbooks?
    What they are implementing

    1. The words "separation of church and state" aren't in the Constitution

    2. The decline in the U.S. dollar's value, including the abandonment of the gold standard.

    3. Efforts by global organizations such as the United Nations to undermine U.S. sovereignty

    Why they are doing it:

"Former board chairman Don McLeroy, one of the board's most outspoken conservatives, said the Texas history curriculum has been unfairly skewed to the left after years of Democrats controlling the board and he just wants to bring it back into balance."

Here's a page with some of the biggest textbook buyback websites. These sites all have pretty good guarantees and huge selections. I would go with one of these.
Try selling your textbooks on http://www.GreenTextbooks.com they are an awesome site and all ways get me the most money for my textbooks. Try it you don't got anything to lose, just enter the ISBN numbers in and see how much you can get for it.

The best way to sell your college textbooks is somewhere you can compare companies, see reviews of them (from customers as well as the BBB), %26amp; know for sure you are making the right decision.

Read on (taken from the site):

"Sell used books for cash by entering the ISBN and get competing offers from the best buyback sites in the business. These companies are reviewed by others users that sell back textbooks so you know who offers the best service.

Help keep your books out of the landfill or collecting dust on your shelves.

Things to remember about selling back books:

    1) Always make sure the quote price is for the book you are selling.

    2) Be sure your books to sell match condition guidelines.

    3) Package your used books carefully.

    4) Read our company reviews and view BBB ratings."What is the best website to sell college textbooks on?
Try http://www.bigwords.com I use them for all my buying and selling needs. They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers (including amazon, half, ebay and all the others already mentioned here) and rental sites (including chegg, bookrenter etc) to find you the best prices. And as you asked, yes you can also use them at the end of the semester to search for resellers to sell your books to. All the results are displayed by price, so when searching to buy, you get the cheapest books first, and when searching to sell you get the highest offer for your books first. Bigwords.com really takes the pain out of getting your books, and makes it fast and affordable.
    You have 2 options:

Half.com and amazon.com are the best place to sell your textbooks. You list them for sale, specify condition. Wait for the sale then ship it to the buyer and receive money in your account within 15 days. You pay 15% of the sale price as commision to amazon or half.com . You will receive more money but have to wait until the book is sold.

Compare what the highest buyback companies what to pay you. http://usedtextbookprices.com/

UsedTextbookPrices.com does just that. You ship the book to them and they send you the money. The shipping is through prepaid shipping label provided by the textbook buyback.

  • Did you use your college textbooks after you finished your class?

I'm wondering how many ppl actually used their textbooks after they've finished using them for their classes. I'm going into college this coming fall, and i'm considering renting some of my textbooks, as it comes cheaper. Advice, anyone?Did you use your college textbooks after you finished your class?
For the general classes that everyone took, I got rid of them as soon as I was done. As for my major, I still have most of those books. They helped in preparing for tests in other classes.

Did you use your college textbooks after you finished your class?
Most of the undergrad books for the classes in my major. . . no, although I have pulled several out once or twice to look something up since they were on the shelf anyway and I knew it'd be in there. A few have been more helpful every now and then, so I'm glad I kept those.

The books I've used in grad school tend to be more useful overall, although I can't say that I'm even using them all the time or anything. I suppose you could always find the same things in the library if you really need them, but it's rather nice to have the book sitting on your desk with no due dates.

What you might want to do is rent/borrow books if you can to start with, and then maybe consider buying them if they seem like good reference books. The basic textbooks you're going to use for the first year or two might not be worth much unless they're directly related to your major. Maybe walk through the bookstore once they start putting books out and see if the books you need for a given class might be good references later before you make a decision?
i used some of my books that had to do with my major as reference for papers and stuff. but the other ones were pretty much useless after the class was over. the one i still use all the time is the english grammer book they make you buy that describes paper formats though. that'll be useful for the rest of your college years.

Is there a website for selling instructor's editions of textbooks?

I have quite a few instructor's editions of textbooks that a university put on a table for anybody to take. Amazon will not allow these books to be sold, although it looks like some people still list them- not sure how they get away with that?

I understand some people may not like this, but I am not the original owner who received the textbook, so I fee ok with selling it.

How much do you use textbooks?

As a public high school student, I've noticed that my best teachers teach 100% from their own knowledge and never (or very rarely) use textbooks. Also, as a person who attended a Montessori school for 9 years, I don't really like text books. So I was wondering how often do homeschooling parents use textbooks (or any text really, whether physical or online) to teach their children. How much do you use textbooks?
I used them very little in the early years. More in the high school years. For math, I feel after grade 3-4 a text is a must. Other than that, I use mainly novels, non-fiction books, games, maps, encyclopedias, bible, etc.

When people use the word curriculum many assume it means texts. It doesn't. It means a scope and sequence learning plan. If you write your goals out of what you want your child to learn, you can use anything to teach them. For a 6yo, you might have a health plan of learning-

    basic safety rules

    basic hygiene

    teeth care

    bike safety

    water safety

    easy first aid

    tobacco deterrence

    choosing healthy snacks

    handwashing

    manners

    etc.

You can teach all that without a book. Or if you want a book, you could borrow books from the library or read books about manners and safety. You don't need a textbook. You can make a curriculum very detailed, or even copy it from your state board of ed website. The methods and materials you use can vary. You just need to follow your curriculum. Texts are not that important.

That's the funniest thing about Y!A....people don't understand what they read..or intentionally disregard the question.

Anyway, we use them for about 50% of assignments.

We don't have the advantage that public school high school teachers have of teaching the same class 3 times a day. If we did that for a few years, we probably could lecture without the use of textbooks. As it is, many times I am learning as I teach. I am a product of the public school and don't remember the things that I "learned" 30 plus years ago.

We also use many free online lectures from the colleges as well as other audio/video materials. How much do you use textbooks?
I go to college and about 45% of teachers teach from textbook. I've had teachers who required textbook for class but I never bought one and still got an A in the class and it also goes other way around. There are professors that I didn't buy a book for their class and I didn't do that well. It just depends on the professor but most in college, don't really put much emphasis on text books.
i was homeschooled for eight years and used text books the entire time. there was one year that i watched videos (taped classes) but still used the text book. when i started high school, i went to several "real" schools where the teachers seemed to not teach out of the text books. it could be that the teachers either have prepared from the book before hand or have taught the info for so long that they don't need to use the text anymore.

i am in lawschool now and all we do is use the text books - glad i was prepared.
I know a lady who homeschools her children and she uses textbooks more than an ordinary teacher. Her children has to know things according to the textbook in order for her to continue to do it. The schoolboard is a little harder on homeschooling because they think if you didn't go to school to become a teacher you are not qualified.
We use textbooks for math (VideoText Interactive, formerly used Math U See) because it's not my strongest subject; the DVD lessons teach in a way that makes sense to my son, and the texts are well laid out.

We use them for about half of his science, as well - he really likes the layout and tone of Apologia, so we use those as a spine and build out from there. We add a lot into them though, from video telecourses on the net to lapbooks and field trips.

That's really about it. Everything else I build units for him around lapbooks and projects.
We almost never use textbooks, preferring instead to use source material. The one exception to this is math, where we use a program called Math U See. Math U See does not use textbooks per se, relying instead on DVDs, manipulative's and a workbook. There is a teacher's manual as well, and that is as close as my child comes to using a textbook.
We have a LOT of reference books which we use to answer specific questions but nothing you would call a textbook, like schools use. I guess if at some point my daughter wants to take a specific exam we might want to get something like that, but even then I'm not sure.
I rarely use textbooks. There are way too many problems with textbooks for me to consider using them often.

Most homeschool parents I know, use them sparingly, but there are those that use them extensively.

    To each his own :D
The only "text book" we use is math. I have Abeka text books for history and science, but I use them more of a reference of what to cover vs. as a text book.
I use work textbooks all of the time. The main reason is becasue I work better with them than without one.

My textbooks are different from regular textbooks because they allow me to learn on my own. My books have many step by step examples.
saddly now the schools are trying to make text books a must. ( lucky me i'm out of high school)

text books are all BS goverment, " what the students should be learning" aka gorverment writen. Not all the facts
This year we've only used math workbooks. Oddly enough my son, that can't sit for two seconds, has chosen all workbooks for next year. Most of our learning is done through conversation, and movies.
It depends on the teacher. Some teachers will frequently use the textbooks for homework and reference. Others will make you check them out, but only use them once.
I use text books when teaching my son, but thats because he requires the structure of a curriculum. I hope to eventually move more towrds unit studies as he gets older and just use texts for math.
my mom and dad dad teach me and they use a lot of text books with me and it costs a lot of money

There are quite a few sites that will let you sell textbooks as an independent seller. You may also want to check some of the larger textbook retailers for a textbook purchasing program. Most of the larger companies refer to this as a buyback program and have a quote system based on demand for the item. Generally these companies will also pay for the shipping to send the item back then send a check upon receiving the shipment. Use a google search like this:

Yes, you can. Jut take your book(s) to the UTSC bookstore.

Their website suggests that they can give you up to 50% for a book. In my experience they don't really give you that much, but I guess it depends on timing, and supply/demand.

They have an online quote feature on their website which you can use to determine how much you can potentially get for your particular books. See: http://www.uoftbookstore.com/online/buyb鈥?/a>

An alternative is the Toronto University Student's Book Exchange. You can post your book(s) online and directly sell to other students at your own price. See: http://tusbe.com

You need to shop around. Look at textbook specialty sites and also at abebooks.com and side-sellers of used books on amazon.com.

Be sure to go to the US abebooks.com site and not the British one. You can identify the nation of the site by looking at the addresses of the sellers. The two abebooks.com sites come up with same URL on google.com, but are different sites. The British site seems to be listed first, probably because it pays for advertising.

Sell them on half.com. I believe it is owned by Ebay.
contact me at westlake91@yahoo.com to tell me a price for them... i'm going to pre-med next year. they sound kind of useful... and if i don't want them im sure someone else might. i think you can sell them back to the college
You can give them to a used book store near a college or you can put a ad on craigslist.com for free to a college bound student that may need them or even a college student. I would also call around and see what else you can do with them some high school students use college books to learn from because they are higher in that portion if learning then another. So call the High Schools near you and see if they will use them or not. You can also ask the High School where else you could take them if they wont. The more people you ask when talking to them on the phone the more ideas and information you will get with anything at all even though its just books your asking about.
Go to a university or jr college near where you live. ask when they will have a book buy back or IF THEY BUY THEM BACK.. then you can sell them. Or have you tried posting them for sale or FREE on Craigslist.org in your area?
you can go back and give the books to the instructors. you can drop them off in the counseling office and they can get them to the correct people.

I once got a free Drafting book that would have cost me $60 new so it was a happy day when an extra one was dropped off.

Am I expected to have the textbooks when I show up to class the first week?Do I need college textbooks for the first week of classes?
No. It is a good idea not to buy textbooks before you go to the first class session. You may decide not to take the class. The professor may state which books should be purchased and which can just as well be used in the library.

Professors usually put all the assigned books on "two-hour reserve" in the college library. This means that the books can be checked out for two-hour use inside the library. You can get by for the first week by using the books in the library.

Not necessarily, in most of my classes I didn't need them until the second time we met. Like others have said though if you are taking a math class you will definitely need it then (just explain to your teacher and I'm sure they will understand). If you don't want to buy books I would recommend chegg.com it is so much cheaper. I love going to www.chegg.com and renting textbooks for cheap and saving 5% by using this code CC106371Do I need college textbooks for the first week of classes?
You might, but it's not like you'll get in trouble or anything if you don't. The professors don't really care if you have the books or not - that's why *you* have to buy them. Try to make some friends as quickly as possible; explain that you can't afford your books yet, and ask to study with them/borrow their books until you have the money.

Look online for cheap books, too, on sites like Amazon and half.com. Maybe rent some of the more expensive ones from Chegg.com.
i had gone through the same thing.

Sometimes you are not given any assignments on the first day of class, but if you are I would suggest using your school library they always have textbooks for students to use. You can do that until your money comes in.
it shouldn't be a problem at all. it might even be better because a lot of the times the textbook is completely unnecessary for the course. i've taken classes for which i never opened the books but got A's in.
Not necessarily...depends on the class or if another student will study with you....math classes, yes, you will need the book immediately
Yes homework starts right away and therefore you will need your books. This isn't high school.
To answer your question, I think you definitely could use a library textbook at school for the first week, keep in mind thought that there might be many other students, that do not buy the textbook in advance, and the professor usually only puts 2 textbooks on hold for his students. You could also explain your situation to one of your classmates and try sharing their textbook with them, until you get the check for textbooks. If you know who your professor will be, I recommend you asking the professor what textbooks you will be using for the semester. In case you already received your syllabus, which I doubt since you usually get it on the first day of class, but in case any of your professor鈥檚 have emailed it to you it should say on it what textbook you will need for the semester in question. I personally like and recommend getting the textbooks early so that you will not have to wait for them when the semester begins. But you definitely should not stress about not having them during the first week, just use the library, which is what I probably would do. You could also personally talk to the professor, explain your situation and maybe he would have an extra book that you could borrow for that first week until you get your check鈥?

Here are some other options on how you can save some extra money on your textbooks...

    1. You could buy the textbooks on Amazon; I used to and still do, when tbookxchange.com does not pull through. This is probably one of the best websites for most of your purchases, especially books, since they are very cheap, and have a 30 day refund... http://www.amazon.com/?tag=tbookx-20

    2. You could also look into TbookXchange.com and exchange your used textbooks for other textbooks. I recently signed up for http://www.TbookXchange.com which seems to be a relatively new, free textbook exchange service. All I did was create an account, add the books I needed to my need list, my old textbooks to my have list, (make sure you add textbooks to both lists otherwise they are not able to find you a possible exchange), and if there are any possible exchanges, (which unfortunately does not happen every time, yet), It helps me to save some extra money from not needing to buy a new text book. If it does not work out for you this time, it might do so next time, who knows??? I have to say that I have worked up quite a collection on old text books from many of my previous years, since I am a senior right now. I do wish this website would have started a bit sooner...

    3. Also see http://www.half.com has cheap textbooks for sale鈥?I have bought some of my textbooks here as well...

    4. http://www.chegg.com might also be a good solution for you, I have not had the opportunity to use their services myself, but I have heard from classmates that they rent you the textbook for a good price.

However, have in mind, that in case you are renting a textbook have in mind that sometimes professors may use the same Textbook throughout several classes. Some professors use the same textbooks, and some do not. In one of my introductory classes I bought a textbook that later found itself useful for my next level course, since the professors used the same textbook. But most of the time you probably will not use the same textbook for the next class. I believe you could probably research which professor uses what textbook and maybe choose your professors based on that, which also could save you some extra money, if this is something that would be important to you. Here is a website that might help you a bit, when it comes to choosing a professor, http://www.ratemyprofessors.com . This website has been and still is a good tool for me when I register for my classes.

    5. In case you prefer going to a real store to make your purchases. Here is a website that I recently found for one of the other questions that I responded to. It is a rated website for several in-store bookstores in many different areas, just search by the city and state in the top corner of the site鈥?http://www.insiderpages.com/search/searc鈥?/a> I have to say that I have not been in a in-store bookstore for a while now, so I really do not know of any cheap ones or good ones, but hopefully these ratings will work out. I usually either exchange or buy all my textbooks online.

Hope this gives you some options to work with... Good Luck with your decision... :)

What should I do about professors and textbooks?

So the issue is..,. I started classes this semester and I have no financial aid or money to pay for my textbooks. A few of my professors are really anal about the books and make them a requirement and base their whole class around the books, thats fine and understandable. I have already gotten a job, tried to apply for small loans and my question is, if their was no way to afford the books and you have tried all you could, what would you do? I'm feeling nervous about it, but i seriously can't afford them! I'm in college by the way of course! :)

thanks...What should I do about professors and textbooks?
Check the library catalog to see if any of your books are held by the library. You might be surprised. Go ahead and recall them if they're checked out.

See about sharing a book with a classmate or a friend who is taking the class (or has already or will next year). If it's inconvenient to pass the book back and forth every week, photocopy or scan a few chapters at a time.

Look online for cheaper prices than what the bookstore charges.

Talk to the financial aid office if you haven't already to see if there are options available that you haven't explored.

Ask your parents for book money or book loans.

Switch some of your classes to ones that don't have textbooks or cheaper ones.

Run a balance on your credit card and work extra hours in the summer to pay it off.

If all else fails, reduce your course load to part time and increase your work hours.

This really isn't your professors' problem, and while I'm sure they're sympathetic about the high costs of college, asking them to make exceptions for you (e.g. to let you get by without doing the readings/homework or to, I don't know, buy your textbooks for you) is not the way to make a good first impression. What should I do about professors and textbooks?
I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. Textbooks are very expensive. I found this article that I hope you will find helpful:

http://www.ehow.com/how_5141574_spend-le鈥?/a>What should I do about professors and textbooks?
I assume you've already asked your professors whether they have extra copies they could lend you (most won't) or at least put on reserve in the library, and have looked into buying your books online to get better prices. I assume that you've checked the library, too. I assume you've asked your parents and siblings and aunts and uncles for a loan, that you've asked your employer about getting an advance, that you've gotten all the student loans you can possibly get and that you're already getting all the federal and state grants you can qualify for. I'm going to assume that you've used all the money you've saved from summer and after-school jobs throughout high school and that you've sold all of your belongings that anyone will buy. I'm going to take you at your word that you don't have the money, and can't get the money, to get any copies of your books at all, and that you're asking what to do GIVEN that you don't have books.

If there was no way to afford books and they were not available in the library, I would attend part-time so that I was paying less tuition and had more time to work to afford the books.

If I needed to not be part-time because, for instance, my scholarship required me to be full-time, I would see whether I could defer admission for a semester and work as many hours as possible in the meantime.

Doing the reading is not something that's nice to do on the side: it's a vital part of learning. If you can't afford the books for a particular class then you can't afford to take the class.

Are you out of the Add/Drop period? If you're not, you can still get a refund if you drop below full-time. If you are, then withdrawing won't get you any refunds, but it will mean fewer books to buy and more time to work to pay for them. Unfortunately, if you're living in a dorm then dropping below full-time may result in having to find somewhere else to live.

I suspect the advice you want is along the lines of "Don't be nervous, it doesn't matter if you have the books." But that's not honest advice. I wish I could tell you a way to magically have more money; I think that a university education should be free for students who are good enough to go (although I think there might need to be a limit on the number of free spaces available and, given the inequality in terms of access to primary and secondary education I don't think "achievement" alone should determine who is "good enough"), and I think that it's a disgrace that you and many other students are in this position. But this is how it works right now. If you can't afford the books, you can't afford the course.

I hope you find some way to get the books, though. And I really am sorry that you are in this situation.

Where can you find the cheapest college textbooks?

I need to buy a government book for class, do you know any good websites that will offer textbooks for less? Thank you so much! :)Where can you find the cheapest college textbooks?

I've had terrible experiences with Amazon and Half.com (terrible quality and snail-like shipping time) but fell in love with Chegg.com two semesters ago. Their prices are much better compared to Amazon and Half and the quality of the books is superb for a rental service. The shipping time is awesome and my books always arrive really quickly and sending them back is a breeze.

If you use the code CC118271 you'll save 5% on your entire order and $5 back if you want to sell other textbooks to Chegg.

On my most recent order, I saved $63.82 for just a couple of books. I love Chegg and recommend them to everyone.
I always use http://www.bigwords.com They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers (including amazon, half, ebay etc) and rental sites (including chegg, bookrenter etc) to find you the best prices. You can even use them at the end of the semester to search for resellers to sell your books to.
    Hey there!

You should rent from chegg.com. I always rent when I can. It's just cheaper and easier. You don't have to deal with buyback and chegg ships fast. Also the plant a tree for every book they sell. Plus right now they are donating money from every book they sell to Haiti.

Use this code: cc101135 and save and EXTRA 11% OFF.

    Good luck!!
Try finding the book on Amazon? Or some colleges have a textbook exchange where the students drop off their old textbooks with an organization and resells it to other students for cheaper. There are also some textbook rental companies (like Chegg), but I'm not very familiar with those.

How can I get rid of old textbooks that are 5-7 years old and are therefore not able to be sold?

I live in the Philadelphia area and I want to get rid of some old textbooks that won't get a sniff on ebay because they are too old. Does anybody know of charities or organizations that can take these books? I would prefer not to throw these books away, but if it comes to that I might have to.

Does anybody know where I can get inexpensive used but in good condition textbooks?

I need three textbooks for college this fall, so any information will help.Does anybody know where I can get inexpensive used but in good condition textbooks?
YES. try half.com, I got a bunch of books on that site for literally half price! just make sure it is the right edition. Here's another trick, don't buy the book before the class begins. If the professor is cool, sometimes they will tell you outright that you only NEED 1 out of the 3 books assigned. Or they will photocopy a few segments of a book thus making it a waste of your money to buy. As long as you can buddy up with someone for the first week or so while your book is in the mail, this method has served me well. It was worth it just to avoid that bookstore madness in the first week of school. Sometimes if the store sells out of a book, the prof will take pity on you and lend you an extra or even better the teacher's edition

  • What do Great Britain history textbooks say about the American Revolutionary war?

I've seen American textbooks address this issue, but I'm curious to how different England's perspective on the issue was. What do Great Britain history textbooks say about the American Revolutionary war?
Although it is touched upon, in terms of revolutions we deal in greater detail with those that had a larger effect on the history of our country and Europe - such as our own (the Civil War) and that of the French - plus you have to remember that Britain has a vast amount of history to cover and in the grand scheme of it the Revolutionary War is only a minor incident within, especially during that time period. The War of 1812 is barely mentioned, despite it being far more successful for the British than the earlier conflict.

What we do learn are the basics, the points of view and political elements of both sides, the major players, the trade, the actual tax amounts levied and the eventual triggers that set it in motion as well as those who were really doing the fighting on behalf of the Crown.

It is entirely left to the student to make their own decision on who was "right" or "wrong", taking into account the political and social mores of the time.

What do Great Britain history textbooks say about the American Revolutionary war?
We don't study the American Revolutionary War. The earliest American history we study (at secondary school - your high school - without taking a degree in American history) is the 20th Century, as it's part of International Relations. We study it because the Wall Street Crash and such events have an international impact. We also study them in the wars, as we study the wars anyway.

Our history focuses on European history, as it's the longest, after the Middle East's and central Africa's, and most interesting. What do Great Britain history textbooks say about the American Revolutionary war?
The war was only part of the ongoing War between France and the British Empire that had been going for years.

The French blockaded the east coast of the 13 American Colonies and prevented the British landing men and supplies.

In the war of attrition that followed, there could only be one winner.
I'm not sure, but I would guess that they give more attention to the wider international war involving France, Spain, and Holland. The largest battle of the war was the Siege of Gibraltar, which lasted three years. American history textbooks don't even mention it.
As far as I am aware, it is seen as a proxy war. It wasn't between Britain and America but rather France and Britain. So it were French that won. If it wasn't for French there wouldn't have been USA.
It's a sad fact that in British schools today virtually no British history is taught at all. Kids are taught a lot about the Nazis, but virtually nothing else.
Probably not enough. After all, we won and they lost. I doubt if they're very proud of that fact.
