What are some old fashioned textbooks for these subjects that are still good?

Maybe even better than the textbooks used today? Hopefully for the Australian curriculum.

The subjects are: Mathematics, Standard English, Science, Music, Visual Arts, Technology, Italian, Religion (Catholic), World History, Australian Geography and Personal development health and physical education.

Probably Year 8 - 9 in particular.

For English try "New First Aid in English" by Angus McIver. It's widely available and I've been using it for ages. Lots of examples and lots of exercises. It's like the books I learned from many years ago. What are some old fashioned textbooks for these subjects that are still good?

What is a good website where I can order all my textbooks with one shipping charge, instead of many?

Right now, I found a good deal with Amazon, but I need 18 textbooks this semester. After putting the order in, the shipping was like a third of the books. I want a website that ships them all from one place, not from individual sellers. I would prefer used books, of course. What is a good website where I can order all my textbooks with one shipping charge, instead of many?

Shipping is a huge problem. You can look for free shipping codes by typing the name of the site into google with the words coupon and code. Another option is to try cheaptextbooks.com and bigwords.com I've attached an article on other ways to save money on textbooks. What is a good website where I can order all my textbooks with one shipping charge, instead of many?
contact the company like Amazon directly. tell them you want to use your own shipping company that you have an account with. then contact www.shipalliance.com 800-684-6359. i did this same thing %26amp; saved a bundle!

Are there any websites that pay good money for selling used textbooks?

I'm debating whether to sell them back to the college bookstore or trying to sell them online! Do any websites pay good money for selling used textbooks? Are there any websites that pay good money for selling used textbooks?
Selling on half.com usually makes you the most money on books. Websites that buy your books back are usually just buying them to list on there anyway. One thing you can do to make money though is to dropship books. You can email me at rockthecasbah121@yahoo.com if you want more information.

Amazon is actually a pretty good idea if your books are in good shape. Find your books on Amazon.com and see how much they're selling for used, then compare it with your bookstore. Keep in mind that selling online requires the hassle of shipping.

What is the best site where I can sell my college textbooks online?

I am running low on on cash, so I was thinking of selling some textbooks. What is the best site where I can sell my college textbooks online?
Amazon! You can create a free seller account right from your regular account. You type in the ISBN number and it finds exactly what you're selling. They credit you $3.99 in shipping and only charge a small commission. I made $200 in a week, because I wanted to get rid of them rather than being concerned about how much I payed for them to begin with. I suggest buying your books on Amazon as well, because they will buy them back for much higher than a school store.

I am selling textbooks. I am sellng mathematics textbooks and world history textbooks. I don't know how much to sell them for, though. Does $5-$10 a textbook sound good? How much should i sell textbooks for?
$5-10 sounds low to me unless it's an old edition that hardly anyone is buying back. I think you should get 30%-50% of what you paid for the book new. I've sold books to TextbookRecycling.com a few times. Their prices are really good and they've bought back books that I haven't been able to sell anywhere else.

How can you download textbooks from MyScribe onto an Ipod touch?

I am in college online and I would like to download my textbooks onto my Ipod touch so I can access them more conveniently. Under the file tab on MyScribe it does say "Download to USB drive" but my laptop isn't recognizing the Ipod as a mass storage device. It's a 16 gb so I know I have room. What do I do? That was the whole purpose of getting the Ipod. Any help would be great! How can you download textbooks from MyScribe onto an Ipod touch?
The iPod touch is the only iPod that doesn't show up on the computer as a USB mass storage device.

Your best bet would probably be a paid app called Flash Drive (from the iTunes store). It's $2.99. There is a way to do it for free though.

Which firmware do you have on your iPod, 3.0? I use a program called GoodReaderUSB (works on mac and windows) to put files on my iPod. Then all I have to do is use an app like GoodReader, iFile, mobile finder, or an ebook reader app to open the book. I've also heard that iphonebrowser is a good program, but I'm a mac user and it's windows only.

COLLEGE STUDENTS: How much would you pay to be able to rent your textbooks at a library?

I'm considering starting a "library" near my college, where students would pay a semester membership for the ability to come in any time and study. I would have all the textbooks, in large enough quantities so that you always have an available book. It would be a nice studying atmosphere with study rooms, tables, desks, computers, printers/scanners, etc, all included.

How much would you pay for such a service? Please consider that you would not have to buy any textbooks. I welcome any suggestions.COLLEGE STUDENTS: How much would you pay to be able to rent your textbooks at a library?

I would not rent textbooks as it is easier to get better grades if I mark them up and textbooks cost much less than tuition, room or board.

I don't want to tell you how to run your business, but when you consider the investment in inventory, the frequent publication of new editions, and your general operating expenses of rent, utilities, computers, etc., I do not see how you could possibly make a profit, especially in comparison with the returns which you could make on your capital in the stock and commodities markets.
what if i needed to take my book to class?

what if i could use my book on a open book open note test?

what if the library was closing, and I need to take by book home to study?

there are millions of different types of college books on campus. Not to mention, it would be hard to get a hold of every single book on campus. colleges already have 3 or more bookstores on campus. plus when people buy there books, they can return them and make money. if you are on a scholarship and get book money, that is even better.

the renting book part is not a good idea in my opinion, but i like the idea of a library to study with computers print and desks.

but if I had to say, I would say $100 per semester
Less than $100 a year and I would be really mad if I ever came in and there wasn't a book for me to use.

The future is going to be e-books. I buy all my books in e-book form now. They are way better than the traditional ones. I can find anything I want in 2 seconds.
considering that there are 12 libraries already on my school's campus, not to mention a myriad of public libraries within driving or even walking distance, all where I can get books for free, and which already stock all the books that are used at my school...and also where i can go and study for free.... why would I want to pay for the same thing??

I think you have an interesting idea, though, but just speaking my own opinion, it doesn't sound profitable. I don't think a membership is a good idea, but if you do it would have to be less than the cost of a textbook, or else people would just want to buy the book and bypass you altogether...I would set it around $50. I can't imagine that many people would join to cover the costs, and even if they did, you'd have to have a pretty big space to fit them all. you'll have to pay rent on a space, as well as buying thousands of books, and then re-buying them every couple years...even book publishing companies barely make enough profit off of textbooks, so how are you going to do it?

thirdly, you should probably think about supplementing your service with a coffee bar and some pastries. College kids will go out of their way for coffee :P

What is your opinion on Texas trying to change their textbooks to rewrite history in a Christian light?

I myself find it utterly disgusting and ridiculous. If you don't know what I'm talking about then just turn on the news or youtube it because it's a hot topic right now.

I actually live in Texas but I've already graduated high school but I'm still worried that others will be spoon fed evangelical crud in their history textbooks. There's even talk about George Washington having a deathbed conversion and the removal of separation of church and state.

I'M OUTRAGED, are you? What is your opinion on Texas trying to change their textbooks to rewrite history in a Christian light?
Yeah, I'm pretty disgusted by it. I'd like to hear a justification on how Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are more important historical figures than THOMAS JEFFERSON. How exactly did the thinking of Thomas Jefferson seem so inconsequential to the Texas School Board they thought it would be okay to drop him from the curriculum altogether?

I mean sure, he only penned the Declaration of Independence, helped preside over the Continental Congresses and the Constitutional Convention, was the primary consultant to James Madison (you know, the guy no one ever seems to remember WROTE the Constitution... the pesky guy who coined the phrase "separation of church and state" to explain the intention of the First Amendment to the American people... that guy), and was the third President of the United States. Okay, I guess you can gloss over that for a radio commentator who currently thinks there are subliminal communist messages hidden in the artwork on Rockerfeller Center and tells his audience they should start turning in priests and pastors who promote social justice because they're secret Nazis (one has to wonder if Mr. Beck is familiar with how people like Stalin and Ceausescu maintained control by encouraging citizens to spy on one another).

Of course, there's not enough time for everything. That's why he's being cut out rather than, say... deciding it isn't that important to teach the cultural significance of COUNTRY MUSIC. Something had to give, and it wasn't going to be a bunch of Christian extremists who never had anything to do with this country and to whom virtually no one pays any attention these days.

The new Texas curriculum tells me two things loud and clear:

    1) "Texas, it's like a whole other country", and thank God, because we don't want it in this one any more.

    2) Allowing the stupid to appoint and elect the foolish to determine how to best shape the minds of the ignorant is about as bright as giving scalpels and suture needles to a group of retarded people and unleashing them in the O.R. Sure they'll end up cutting a lot of things and might even sew a few things up, but chances are they're going to do nothing but completely f**k you up in the process.

What is your opinion on Texas trying to change their textbooks to rewrite history in a Christian light?
While I do like the idea of the founding fathers becoming less than the almighty and infallible characters they are now, I do still feel that their ideas and philosophies need to be discussed in a classroom setting. I suppose it'd be rather naive of me to hope that the truth be taught in schools, but I'd rather like to see history as it happened be taught, rather than the glorified version of history taught now.

Regardless, any attempt to put religion into government or schools enrages me. I'm fine with humanizing the founding fathers, but when their character flaws are used to attack the institution they set up, it infuriates me. While the words "separation of church and state" never appear in the constitution, it is the only possible conclusion to draw from the first amendment's religious clause. What is your opinion on Texas trying to change their textbooks to rewrite history in a Christian light?
It's about time that that the Amendments of our Constitution are showing their true colors. If there can be talk about evolution in our science classrooms then why not make it fair and give rise to the topic of creationism as well? However that is rarely ever the case amongst science and evolutionists.

One day our children will be learning the awareness of how we came about and when that day comes they will hopefully learn the importance of Christ in our lives. But okay, let's be just here, we are not teaching students what to "believe", we are teaching them what goes on in our world and growing society. Why fake ignorance when obviously that "evangelical crud" just happens to be a LARGE fragment of our history.

    Good luck and God Bless!
Actually, from the reports I've heard, the committee is pushing for less inclusion of the founding father's faiths in textbooks. And "removal of separation of church and state"? What are they going to remove it from? You do know that's not in the Constitution, right? In fact, the original document was written in a way that was trying to protect the church from the states... not the other way around.
its not as bad as everyone is making it seem

i saw one thing that liberals outraged that we are not calling America a democracy, but a "constitutional republic"

We are a constitutional republic, if we were a full democracy, the sh*t would hit the fan
I dont even want to get into that atm. No offense but Texas is the worst state and I hope they secede. No one likes them. But yes thats pretty ridiculous. I honestly see another civil war happening in the future if other states get the same idea.
It's absolutely outrageous and I hope it isn't passed. If it is then what's to stop them from trying to get it passed in other states too?
Why is everything about Texas so backasswards? It seems like 4 out of every 5 times the United States messes up, it's to do with Texas.
No, they just want accurate and balanced history that does not take a bigoted anti-Christian position.
The USofA history IS one of " Christian heritage"..........................

about time someone stood up for it.

" theres even talk" ................is hogwash

No I am not outraged at all. I say more power to them.

Yes, I'M OUTRAGED!!!!!!!!! And I'm glad to hear from someone else who feels this way!

Why do the same textbooks have different publishers?

I have to get some textbooks for school but I can't find them anywhere on the internet. Does it matter if there are different publishers? Is there a difference in the text? I've searched the isbn numbers the college has given me but can't find the same numbers anywhere. Thanks for the help. Why do the same textbooks have different publishers?
There are many text books that cover the same topic but have different authors. This is because different people wrote them. To be honest, I'm not really sure what you mean by the same book having different publishers. It doesn't make sense to me. Try looking up the title AND author of the book and seeing if the ISBN matches. You can try Amazon. It's possible you might have written down the wrong ISBN or made a mistake when you were writing it down. Why do the same textbooks have different publishers?
You're doing something odd, then. There's no _way_ you'd be unable to find a book online when you have its ISBN.

I suggest you check again. If the numbers still seem to make no sense, ask the college.

Once I have the topic I'll research and write about it, thanks! What is a piece of American history that educational textbooks usually don't mention?
We tend to gloss over any number of things that don't exactly fit "the American way" too well.

A huge one is the way we handled the indigenous people of the United States prior to the 20th century. Issue like "why did we remove all of the native people from the southeastern US circa Trail of Tears" or "What exactly was General Custer doing at the Little Big Horn to start with?"

Another is the camps we created for American citizens of German and/or Asian ancestry during WWII.

Speaking of WWII - if Pearl Harbor was a complete and total surprise attack - why were there US Marines already stationed at opportune locations throughout the Pacific? Particularly places like Midway Island.

Well, more WWII. Were the Flying Tigers really a bunch of volunteers helping out in China without support of any other country? Or, were they a US force opposing Japan's invasion of China? We say they weren't "American" military. Japan says they were.

    just some ideas....

Add: St Augustine wasn't the first city. It is the oldest city that's still here. There were earlier cities that just didn't work out. They were colonized by Spain too. But if we're looking for "first city" - where did Mr. Erikson (the Viking) live when he visited here?

Use BigWords or CheapTextBooks to help you comparison shop (www.BigWords.com and www.CheapTextBooks.com). Rental options are Chegg.com, BookRenter.com, and eCampus.com, which claim that their rentals save 65-85 percent off the price of buying used. For more ideas and resources see the attached article.
Google the ISBN #, just put in ISBN with the 10 or 13 digit number following it. Usually it will come up with places online that are carrying it.

Overall, my favorite is Amazon.com. Search for the book by ISBN # on Amazon.com (the textbook page is a good start, there is an ISBN search box there) and then when you get to the book's page, look on the right hand side for More Buying Choices, that's where you'll find a link for the Used books. You are buying for individuals and companies, but the sale goes through Amazon. Shipping is $3.99 per book, or $6.99 per book for expedited, if it's offered. I've bought many used text books this way and never had a problem.
The best site I have found for finding college textbooks is BookDealFinder.com

Not only can you find used textbooks at the best price, you can also find new books, rentals, and eBooks.

Quite a few online textbook stores have a buyback program for textbooks. Generally they will also pay for the shipping for you to send back your materials as well. If you ever doubt the validity of an online vendor, you can look for them on the BBB. All you need to participate is the ISBN of the book you want to sell back. You may want to try a google search for textbook buyback program and get a few quotes from different competitors to get the most money you can.

What are some good websites that sell used college textbooks cheap?

I personally like buying my books from amazon or half.com. If you're looking for other sites that sell used books, check out this article: http://makecollegereality.com/succeed/ge鈥?/a> It lays out a bunch of different sites with information such as shipping times and fees, return policies, and how the sites work.

Some people will say that renting books or getting e-books is a better deal, but I personally think that buying them used and selling them back online is the best deal. Most of the time, you pay the same amount of money to rent them as to buy them. So you might as well buy them and then you have the ability to sell them at the end of the semester. What are some good websites that sell used college textbooks cheap?

I would personally advise you to use chegg.com! Chegg is a place where you RENT your textbooks not buy them! You basically enter the title or isbn number of the textbook and everything else is straight to the point. What's good about them is the fact that you use the book for the semester and then you mail them back for FREE. You can send them back in the original box and they provide you with the shipping label. You just drop your book off in your nearest UPS drop box or store and you're good to go.

-On an average I've saved $320.00 using them for TWO SEMESTERS! For my summer course my book cost $184.00 in the book store %26amp; I rented them from chegg for $32.00!

    Hope I helped :)

  • What Should I Do About College Textbooks?

Is it possible to go a month without textbooks in college? Because that is how long it is going to take me to get my scholarship money refund. I have one textbook right now, out of 8 or so.What Should I Do About College Textbooks?
Go ask the campus bookstore if you can buy your books and charge them against your financial aid account. Most do this as a regular thing.

Whether you need the books right now depends a lot on the course you're in and the requirements. You might find them in the library but don't count on it - everyone else wants that book free too. Your best shot is to find someone who took the same class last semester and borrow theirs or to find someone in a different section of the same class now and share.

While many professors assign texts that they then don't use in class - most have a reason for requiring a textbook. In my class, if you don't have a book at the second class meeting then you better have a really good reason why not and some plan for how you're going to pass my class without it. If your story is sad enough (such as "I had it but it was in my room and my house burned down this week") then I'll loan you one or buy it for you. If it's just "I can't afford to go to college" then that isn't going to cut it with me.

PS: you'll find that most students who never crack a textbook also never make it past year two. They're doomed.

PS2: Get mom, dad, grandma, uncle Fred, anyone with credit to cosign a secured credit card for you with about $250 limit on it. Secured means that money is in the bank to cover the card. The agreement with said relative is that this card is only for buying textbooks and gets paid off when financial aid releases each semester. It costs them nothing (because the money stays in the bank) and helps build your credit while allowing you access to the money in advance of financial aid. Almost all banks will issue you a secured credit card to just about anyone and many will do it without the cosigner at all. Treat that card well and with respect and by the time you graduate you'll have an unsecured gold card from that bank with which to begin adult life. Credit cards are essential these days - debt is not. Pay your card balances off every month.
It depends on when your first exam is and how heavily your class emphasizes the notes over the book. It's possible in some classes, but not in others. Talk to your professors and see what they advise- many have extra copies of the textbooks they lend out to needy students. The library also often has a copy of textbooks on file. You can't take them out of the library, but you can read them there. Also, try photocopying chapters from a friend's book.

Good luck! What Should I Do About College Textbooks?
You probably can, maybe make friends with people in your classes and see if they'll let you share their book for the first few weeks. There was a guy in one of my classes last sem. who couldn't get his book for a awhile due to money issues. He asked everyone in our class if anyone would mind sharing their book for awhile until he had enough money to buy his own, many people offered to help. What Should I Do About College Textbooks?
you can do ALOT actually....makes friends in all the classes you don't have books in right now and do you homework with them...you'll get extra help AND have access to a book (win-win). also, you're university may have a circulation desk, where you can check out the book you need for like an hour or so...you can photo copy the pages you need for whatever you're doing, and just turn it back in when your times up. and also, there are websites such as ebay and half.com, where all you need is the ISBN # and it'll sell you the book for a MUCH cheaper price.

my into to psych book is about $112 at my book store (for new), $92 for used, but it's only about $50-$60 on half.com...godsend, isn't it?

but try any of these methods...everyone knows books are seriously overpriced in college...as long as you have access to your books, you should be fine.
You don't really use your textbooks that's what I have learned, unless it's math or some crazy teacher that always makes you read. I can tell you this as well. Go to the library and check them out. Or if you have a TRIO program sometimes they let people borrow their books.
only if u can borrow or share with friends and get notes

your going to need the textbook

Textbooks become obsolete so you may not find a market for them. However, Amazon , Borders - any of the book sellers seem to have a used book section. Check them on line.
I would check online because it's convenient. The link below has some of the top buyback sites online. If the books are too old, though, you might be out of luck. Donate it to a local library?

This is my first year of college and i was really surprised at the prices of the textbooks. i've been to a few bookstores, but they are all expensive. i checked amazon and teh books i was looking for were at an amazing low price. i have never bought anything from amazon. so is it a good idea?Is it a good idea to buy my college textbooks from amazon because of the cheap prices?
Don't worry.I bought all my textbooks from Amazon every year, because they often offer books at discount price and it is a very well-known and trustworthy online store. I've got some used books at a cheaper price, together with new books. You may want to look for them early or there will be less and less choice for used books there:

Yes, I've purchase quite a few of my textbooks online--directly from Amazon and from private sellers. Amazon offers free shipping on a lot of their products, so that's a saver right there. I've purchased from private sellers, and they have all followed through. Be sure to look at their ratings and how many people have rated them. That'll give you an idea if they accurately describe the product that they're selling and if they ship out quickly.

The only complaint I've had was when a book that I had ordered came in the mail with the first chapter completely ripped off and a "Sorry for the inconvenience" note from the USPS stuck to the bandaged packaging. I know that the seller didn't ship it that way, but I think the damage occurred because it wasn't packaged properly. Is it a good idea to buy my college textbooks from amazon because of the cheap prices?
Amazon is only one of many places to get your books. I use http://www.bigwords.com They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers (including amazon, half, ebay etc) and rental sites (including chegg, bookrenter etc) to find you the best prices. You can even use them at the end of the semester to search for resellers to sell your books to.
ABEbooks.com is way better than amazon.com. You should ask the professor first if you can purchase an earlier edition of the textbook. I never had a problem and I saved tons of money. I would pay like $0.99 and everyone else would pay over $100.00. I'm not even exaggerating. Sometimes when an author of a textbook updates an edition, they might just switch around some chapters and add an article or something, they are not much different at all. I would just compare the book to the correct edition so if other students are reading chapter 11 you are reading chapter 2, or something. The authors won't even change much of the info. They wrote the book to make money and will not spend too much time rewriting their book. I did this and I got all As throughtout all my education, even in my Master's program. Good luck.
Yes! I have bought many of my textbooks on Amazon. Always pay through Paypal though because if you have any problems with the seller, Paypal will help you dispute and eventually get your money back if need be. I'm a senior now on my last semester and I've never run into any problems with any of the seller's on Amazon. Ebay has some more unreliable sellers but Amazon is definitely more reliable.
Yes, just make sure that you are getting the correct version of the book. Most textbooks release new editions each year so that the University has to buy new batches each year.

A lot of time if you are getting an incredible deal on a textbook it is last year's edition.
DON'T BUY YOUR TEXTBOOKS! You can rent them!

    Go to Chegg.com.

They will save you 65% to 85% off your college bookstore!

Use code CC101125 to save even more money. Keep in mind that the prices are lower before the semester starts.

Please share this with any friends that your know that are in college. It will help a lot!
Yes! Amazon, ebay, and textbooksrus are some good choices. I bought many of my books from ebay but had one bad experience which was never resolved because ebay was not helpful AT ALL.

I never had a problem with Amazon and textbooksrus though.
Absolutely. Half.com is also really good too. I would recommend buying from sellers that have a lot of positive ratings. A lot of people have textbook warehouses. I had a little bit of a problem with one of the books I ordered but the seller resolved it and I got my money back so it was ok. The only problem is it can take some time to ship so you will have to do it early.
if you get financial aid i would suggest buying them with that at the school book store.. my second suggestion would be to look around the campus for people posting flyers about selling their old books then if that dont work i would go to the amazon choice
Yepp, I bought mine on B%26amp;N, or maybe it was Amazon, it's been a few years. Wherever you can get them cheaper is the best thing to do. Try local bulletin boards for used ones, they are cheaper too.
I bought all my books from http://www.thecollegebookbag.com they were the cheapest I could find and I did not need one book, they gave me a full refund.
Yes. I bought books from amazon and other online retailers all four years of college. As long as you're sure that it's the right book and the correct edition you'll be fine.
You should rent your text books. I use chegg.com. Its usually at least half the list price. They also ship fast. Save an extra 5% right now with this code: CC101135 .
Sure is. I purchased lots of things from Amazon and never had a problem with them. I prefer them over Ebay most times.
    Of Course Mark,

But work Fast, you will need your books like ASAP. When I can I also order from Amazon.
absolutely!!! It's always best and cheap to get used books. I always did and saved a lot of money

Where can I get the amazon promotional code textbooks ?

Does amazon have any promotional code for textbooks? Anyone knows that? Used textbooks or second-hand textbooks are also OK.Where can I get the amazon promotional code textbooks ?
Well, as I know, amazon doesn't like to give customers discount codes for textbooks, instead, it has many book promotion events or special offers. I assume that discount textbooks are also what you want. then please continue to read.

Currently , amazon has these book offers:

    1. Textbooks save up to 30% on New Textbooks and up to 90% off Used Listings

    2. Big Deals in Bargain Books

    3. Best Books of the Month, average 40% off

    4. Textbooks trade in

You can find all these from amazon textbooks category page. If you are too lazy to find these promotion events, can go to a amazon book discount search tool which is http://www.tophotdeal.com/

that can allow you search any book deals by keyword, author, discount range etc.

Here are also some books deals from amazon:

I'm not sure about the promo codes, but I'm assuming you want something like that for a discount right? Why don't you try searching for your books on the textbook search engine www.bigwords.com They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers and rental sites to find you the best prices. And at the end of the semester you can use them to search for resellers to sell your book to. All the search results are organized by price so you can buy your books for the lowest prices and sell them back for the highest.

CHEGG IT BABY! I use chegg.com it's cheap, easy, convenient. I love it, it has saved me honestly over $500 in books. I love chegg because you can either rent or buy them, I prefer to rent most of my books because I won't be using them after the semester is over. By the way if you use chegg use this special code CC106371 and it can save you 5% off your order. • What are the best college textbooks for Physics?

I've developed a strong interest for physics and want to read some college-level textbooks of it in my spare time. What, in your opinion, are the BEST (no second-best; I want ones that thoroughly explain concepts) college textbooks for physics? Thanks! What are the best college textbooks for Physics?
I'm a physicist, so... maybe I can help you.

If what you want is to understand concepts, then I wouldn't go with anything other than the Feynman Lectures on Physics. The books are that, conceptual physics, which means, you won't see a single solved problem in there. Particularly, these are my favorites when I need to truly understand the behavior of something. Unfortunately, these books won't help me to know how to solve problems. They are NOT meant for that. Of course, in recent years they held out a problem supplement for the lectures, so if you buy the whole kit, then you should be fine lol...

If what you want is problem-solving along with the theory somewhat explained (with no mathematical formality, just intuitive formality), then the best are the Resnick-Halliday or Sears-Zemansky. To be perfectly honest, they are pretty much the same, there is no real "best choice".

For problems in Dynamics, i go with the Resnick, problems in Electromagnetism, I go with the Sears. Understand a concept, I go with the Feynman (yeah, i bought all those, Sears, resnick, feynman.. and MANY MANY others...) : )

    Hope this helps.
The best physics textbooks you'll find are usually filled with mathematics/physics jargon, that unless you've taken the appropriate classes for them, then you won't understand what you're reading. Besides, if you really want a good grasp at physics, all you really need is a solid foundation of knowing the basic laws of physics. Everything else in physics is pretty much a derivation of the basic laws.

If you're just starting out, go get yourself a copy of Physics for Dummies. If you're in college, then take an entry-level physics class. What are the best college textbooks for Physics?

What do college students prefer, electronic or paper textbooks?

I am conducting this to see what is more popular with college students. Since eBooks are becoming more popular and paper textbooks cost more, I wanted to ask what you like to pick up and read when studying. What do college students prefer, electronic or paper textbooks?
I don't know that the etextbooks will prove to be a viable option for college students, at least not all of us. I think the tangibility of actual textbooks has it's own value. Being able to write and highlight in the book, being able to skip around the book quickly and skip to the index if necessary are all things that you lose with the etextbooks. And I understand that textbooks can be expensive, and cumbersome to lug around, but there are ways around both of those. To combat the prices I always use the textbook search engine http://www.bigwords.com (which has their own iphone app now btw) And if you don't want to lug all your books around all day, get there early and find a good parking spot and only carry the book you need for the next class.

How much do high school students pay for textbooks?

I am doing a survey for my school newspaper, and I need to know how much students pay for their textbooks. Any reply would help! How much do high school students pay for textbooks?
We borrowed almost all of our books from the school for free, only paying if they were lost.

Only exception was that we bought our own copies of the story books (as opposed to grammar books) for English class, which ran the usual $5-$20 at local bookstores.

Most high school students don't pay for their books. They use them, but don't own them. They only buy them if they lose or damage them and have to replace it.
High school students? Where I went to school, students didn't need to pay for their textbooks unless they ruined the ones they were given.

You can now "rent" or buy many books that download to your computer. Dont bother with a kindle get a laptop or ipod touch (phone or regular touch). Stores like www.ecampus.com allow rentals of textbooks that you can view online instead of having the real hard copy book on hand.

What is the fastest way of passing out textbooks in a middle school?

I am a secretary at a middle school and I am in charge of passing out all of the textbooks to students there are 1200 students I am new at this so I was wondering what the quickest and most effective wayWhat is the fastest way of passing out textbooks in a middle school?
as the secretary? It depends on where these books are and whether or not all of the students get their own or if they have to share.

I would find a place to put the books, hallway, office, empty classroom, back table of a room, whatever is available. Then, I would have the students line up and pick up their books.

If the books are numbered, i would pass around a sign up sheet with the book numbers on it and have the students sign their names next to the book. Also, I would make sure that the students of one class have books that are close in numbers so that their names will be on the list together and you would just need to write the teachers' names so that you know which students of which teachers the books are with.

If the teachers have book shelves you could have them keep the books there for the students to use and put away when they are done, so that the books aren't being taken home.

What ever you decide to do, I hope it works out for you.

How to find out if new edition textbooks are due out?

Is there a website of something that alerts students that a new edition for a textbook is pending? This way I can know NOT to buy the old edition! It's bad enough that $500+ is spent on textbooks a term and it's even worse that a loss is made of less than 50% when you sell them..but there's nothing worse than finding out that there's a new edition out and no-one's buying the old one. I am thinking about getting an iPad for college because I know that many textbooks are being made for the iPad. I have seen reports that all the major textbook publishers are making their textbooks for the iPad now. I looked on iTunes but it doesn't have the iBookstore on there and I have no idea how to check it otherwise. Thanks :)Which textbooks are available for iPad and what are the costs?

    How to Donate Used Textbooks

Although they may have been expensive and important in college, textbooks definitely loose their value as the years wear on. And if you have an old edition, you may not be able to sell it back to your bookstore. But don't worry, you don't have to throw it away! Your old textbook can be put to good use by donating it to help those less...

Contact libraries in your area and see whether they accept textbook donations. Libraries can usually put old textbooks to good use. Even if a library doesn't accept textbooks directly, the staff will most likely be able to direct you to a place or organization that does, such as literacy programs that provide textbooks for students in need.
Simple, just place a banner outside your door step mentioning about textbooks, don't forget to write free in bold letters. It works!
Give them to other thrift shops.

What is the best way to teach fourth graders to find definitions in their textbooks?

I want my fourth grade students to find definitions in their textbooks rather than me writing the definition out for them. Sometimes the definition is written in the text rather than the glossery or dictionary. What is the best way to teach them to find the definition of a word for themselves? Any suggestions would be great. BTW, I am a six week old teacher (in other words, a newbie) so ya'll (sorry, I live in Oklahoma) experienced teachers just pour it on for me.What is the best way to teach fourth graders to find definitions in their textbooks?
How about making up some kind of worksheet where either the student has to match the def. with the word, or fill in the blanks. That way the student will have to not only have to know what the meaning of the word is, but they will also have to read!!!! (You can kill 2 birds with one stone)

hmm...probably make it into a word hunt or something. Sometimes you have to make it very fun to get the students involved because otherwise they will expect you to do all the workWhat is the best way to teach fourth graders to find definitions in their textbooks?
The prior question is whether you want children to find and copy definitions of terms from their textbooks. This is the typical way teachers ask students to learn technical vocabulary, and it is nearly always ineffective in gaining control of new vocabulary.

Learning vocabulary usually takes a much richer type of instruction. Teachers must explain new words in simple terms and help students discern the boundaries of meaning from examples and nonexamples. They must help students learn how new words are used (for example, water can erode--eat away--a mountain, but families can't erode at McDonalds). Next, students need to encounter the new word in 8-12 different contexts to extricate it from its original context. Finally, students need to begin to create their own sentences.

If your question is how students comprehend word meanings from expository text, they have to learn the many ways English reveals these meanings in context. For example, writers set off new terms with appositives, e.g., "The ancient Greeks were the first people to practice democracy, or rule by the people."

Robert Sternberg has cataloged about a dozen ways astute readers can use to glean word meanings from context. These are described in his book Intelligence Applied.

If this or another answer here proves helpful in your research, you can encourage good answers by choosing one answer as the "best answer."

I've been a teacher for 5 years now The key to getting kids to work is make a game. This seems to work great on the 3 rd %26amp; 4th graders.

Have a contest . call out a word and see how many definitions they can come up with. Best if 2-3 a day. Now the fun tell them to go home research the word and see who had the funniest the closest match etc. Use a star chart Class votes for the funniest, for the week Correct answers or closest by teacher. End of week reward the best answers. Works great You will find they can come up with fun answers.

Try to sell them privately through Amazon or another book reseller. Check first to see what the cheapest price for a current edition, and for other previous editions will be. If it is less than 10 dollars, don't bother, you will loose all profits through shipping cost and commission fees. If you want to donate, find a goodwill box, and put the book in there. They will figure out what to do with it. You can also donate the book to your campus book store, or a local high school library. How do I go about sending out textbooks?

I sold a couple of my textbooks on Amazon. If I wrap them in paper grocery bags or put them in a big paper envelope, then write the adresses on them, where do I go from there? Can I take them to the post office but use stamps or do I have to pay for some other thing instead? How do I go about sending out textbooks?
I would go to your post office - they will weigh the package and tell you exactly how much to pay, then you pay them and they'll put the postage sticker on the package showing that you paid (this way you pay the exact amount - if you use stamps, you may go over the amount and waste stamps). You should visit the USPS website (usps.com)..they have priority mail pay-one-price on any weight boxes and envelops..sometimes if you are sending out heavy things (like books) it may be cheaper to put it in their priority mail "flat rate" envelops or boxes (they are free of charge at your local post office)...they you just pay the flat rate for that envelop/box (which may be cheaper then if you just put it in your own envelop and weigh it).

    Hope that helps!

I would put them in a box, or wrap them in plastic first b/c if they get wet, your customer will be mighty upset! Also, if you print out the name/address and tape it onto the package, go over the ink w/ packaging tape, so if water gets on it, it won't blur the name/address.How do I go about sending out textbooks?

What company pays the most for college textbooks?

I am trying to figure out what online site will pay the most cash for my college textbooks? I have about 19 of them and I payed a lot of money for them and would like to get the most cash back. Thanks. What company pays the most for college textbooks?
ehhh...it's hard to say. I know for sure that college book stores don't give you much at all, so you're smart for selling them online.

You need to see who else is selling your textbooks online (google your book and author or isbn and then click "shopping" and it will list out all the internet sites that sell the same book. You will see the lowest price that that book is being sold at and the highest price as well. You want to pick a price that isn't too low or too high or nobody is going to buy it from you...so that's one thing you need to keep in mind as well.

As for internet sites, I think maybe amazon is worth a shot, but again, you need to see who you're competing against in terms of prices so make sure that your book is going to get sold, or else you won't make any money at all from them. You don't have to list your books at the cheapest price that your used book can be, but you don't want to list it to be too high either. I'm pretty sure you can choose the amount you want to sell it at (as long as it doesn't exceed the full price obviously).

Another thing you can do is to sell them to your peers at your school. Post on facebook that your selling a book, and list out the ones you have, and bargain with them what price you'll sell it to.

There's really no guarantees which one will get you the most money, though. What company pays the most for college textbooks?
Try http://www.eCampusTexts.com. You can at least get a quote. Your best bet will be to compare prices from a number of sites. It's going to depend on what the textbooks are.

Is it more profitable to sell old textbooks & required reading books on Ebay, or to a seller?

I have 25-30 textbooks and required reading books, I no longer need. They're all recent, as they were used last year, and they're all in moderate to almost-new condition.

Is it going to be more profitable to sell them on Ebay, or to another seller like eCampus?

Thanks! Is it more profitable to sell old textbooks %26amp; required reading books on Ebay, or to a seller?
If you sell to a (book) reseller, you will be offered less. These folks have to make a profit.

If you want to let the market set the price, use ebay.

As a seller you have to consider the size of your potential market. To wit, a basic business tenet is, 'The greater the potential market, the greater the potential to maximize profits.鈥?br>

Your largest potential market is eBay worldwide, not just the USA.

HOWEVER, 99% of books don鈥檛 command a great deal of money. Before you waste your time, visit larger used book booksellers on the web such as Abe鈥檚 Books:

    http://www.abebooks.com/

For each book, see what the booksellers are asking for the book. Then you may want to establish your guidelines as to whether you want to list the book or not. Perhaps these guidelines may work for you:

If used booksellers are asking $5 or less for the book, don鈥檛 bother. Selling items for $5 or less at eBay, in my opinion, is a time and energy waster for little return. If this is the case, you may just want to group a lot of 3-5 books in one auction listing and categorize your listings either by author or subject matter.

If used booksellers are asking $5-$10 for the book, I鈥檒l let you decide.

If used booksellers are asking $10+ for the book, list it.

If you don't see the book listed at Abe's, then:

    1. It is extremely rare and worth a small fortune

    or

    2. It is worthless. (鈥楪ently鈥?place it in your recycling bin or donate it.)

Then you have book sellers who will pay for your books:

    http://bookscouter.com/

Keep in mind, however, these buyers will not want all or any of your books. Also, they are buying them to resell at a profit. As such, you will get low-ball wholesale price offers鈥︹€︹€?.if they want the book.

actually, it's not that much. I used to pay around $350 for books in community college. just a math book would go for $85. then, I transfered to university of phoenix where I paid $70 per book and $1450 for each class (3 units each class). yikes!!!!!!
Last year...between $250-550 each semester. This year...I haven't bought my books so I'm not really sure. I did get an e-mail from a professor telling the class that we need three books AND a lab manual.....argggh...I'm thinking it's going to be a lot! :(
I spent about $650 last semester and this semester i spent $ $175.

I t goes by two things..

What books you need and what books you want.

First Semester was need, and this semester was want...not wanting to spend a lot. so i didn't buy all the books.
Wow.. what side of the world do YOU live on? 165 for ALL your books? Man, I'm jealous..

As a science major, I average about 500-600 dollars on books PER Semester. The reason for that is, If I'm taking 3 science classes, they have giant textbooks (used are usually still over 100 Dollars) PLUS a 75-80 dollar lab book. That alone, takes a lot of money.

I've sold back most of my books after the semester, but still... to chalk up 500 dollars on top of tuitions... it's pretty rough...

I wanna know where all the answer-ers LIVE, because you guys have it Nice!!!
How much you spend for text books depends on the number of courses you are enrolled in and the requirement of each course. The average text can cost between $90 and $140 and some courses require that you have 2, 3, and 4 books to complete the course. Buying used books is certainly a way to mitigate this circumstance. The cost of a book is not determined so much by content, although some ego maniacs would argue differently, but by the limited number of books that are printed. Material contained in texts becomes outdated quickly which adds to the cost of keeping the material current.

A range of cost for textbooks per semester is $500 - $600, and when it is less than that, be aware that some semesters you will be paying more. It will average out.

If it is a real hardship, talk to your professor. He/she usually has a few tricks up his/her sleeve and the good ones will get you through.
thats the tip of the iceberg. im spending 500 this semester.
Wow, just my 2 books for this semester as an engineering grad student were a bit over $100 total -- mostly one book that was even a used one, too. I know my undergrad (engineering then, too) totals were a lot worse than that, and that was all 3-4+ years ago.
That sounds cheap. Some books cost that much.

College textbooks change so frequently that I am sure it is a publisher's conspiracy. However, many students like to have access to the older textbooks for references. Much of the information doesn't change significantly, especially over the period of only a few years.

You might consider selling them on e-bay or advertising them on a university bulletin board or somewhere in a university town.

I have had great success selling old textbooks on Amazon.com.
Contact your alma mater and see if they are still using those particular textbooks. Most schools will buy back textbooks if they are still being used. You could also try to sell them on line. If nothing pans out, donate them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. They sell used textbooks (as well as other kinds of books) in their thrift stores.
First, try http://www.booksintocash.com/. If you are still left with books they won't take, try listing them on Amazon Marketplace - where fees are only charged when the items sell. As a last-ditch effort, you can try selling them on eBay, which will charge an insertion fee whether the books sell or not, but it is a very small amount.

After you have tried those, see whether any teachers in your local school district are interested. Often they like to have extra reference material on hand for their students' special projects, etc. If they don't want them, try your public library - they will often give you a receipt for a tax deductible donation.

Then, if any are left, it's time to ditch them!

    Good luck!
of cuz selling it, on ebay or amazon
You can't sell them for much of anything at least not through professional avenues. The editions change all the time. Craigslist helps and there are some university bookbin sites like textbooks.com that can hook you up with buyers.
I sold all of my old books at textbook411.com , and they paid me instant cash ( I didnt have to wait for someone to come along and buy it lik eon ebay or amazon)
You could donate to a school to be used by students with little money or sell them on E-Bay or another web site.
There are many struggling collage students, some can't afford to buy books needed for there classes. You could help a lot of them, by donating your books to them. Wouldn't it be nice to know you helped some one get the education they are seeking.
Ditch them most textbooks become obsolete every 2 years because the writer and publisher want to make more money out of the students.
If no college or university will buy them back you could donate them to the local library. They always appreciate the contributions.
A lot of college bookstores will buy the books back.

I am trying to do research on this idea so I can be fully educated before I present this idea to my principle. I would imagine she would want it to be a pick-up system. Please help! Our basement at school is FILLED with unwanted textbooks!!!!How can my elementary school donate unwanted textbooks?
You can check to see if the books still have value by entering the ISBNs at www.bookjingle.com. If the site is purchasing the books, they will also pay for the shipping.

If the books are not very current, you could donate them to the International books project in Lexington, KY. They send books overseas to developing countries. However, I do not think that they would pay to have the books shipped to them. You could hold a fundraiser to pay for the shipping. How can my elementary school donate unwanted textbooks?
